Vijay Announces Exit from Cinema at ‘Jana Nayagan’ Audio Launch, Vows to Stand for Fans
Actor-turned-politician Vijay revealed his decision to step away from films during the audio launch of his final movie Jana Nayagan in Malaysia, stating that he is giving up cinema to dedicate himself to his loyal fans.
Actor and politician Vijay made an emotional announcement on Saturday, December 27, confirming that he has chosen to leave cinema behind in order to devote himself fully to his supporters. The declaration came during the grand audio launch of his final film, Jana Nayagan, held in Malaysia.
Addressing thousands of fans, Vijay reflected on his journey in the film industry, saying he never imagined reaching such heights.
“When I entered cinema, I thought I was building a small sand house. But you turned it into a palace. My fans helped me build a fort, and that is why I’ve decided to stand up for them,” he said.
“For those who gave me everything, I am giving up cinema itself.”
Reaffirming his commitment, Vijay added that while fans had always stood by him inside theatres, he would now stand for them in a new role for the next three decades. He expressed deep gratitude for their loyalty, especially during times of criticism, and promised to repay their unwavering support.
The star offered special thanks to his Malaysian fans, recalling the films he had previously shot there, including Kuruvi and Kavalan. The crowd erupted when he also mentioned fellow actor Ajith Kumar, noting that Ajith’s film Billa was filmed in Malaysia.
Branded as ‘Thalapathy Thiruvizha’, the event featured elaborate stage performances, emotional tributes and tight security, with Malaysian authorities enforcing a strict no-politics condition. Popular singers Tippu, Anuradha Sriram and Saindhavi delivered high-energy performances, further thrilling the audience with chart-topping numbers.
Veteran actor Nasser delivered a moving speech, thanking Vijay for his support during his son’s recovery and for contributing to the construction of the Nadigar Sangam building. Quoting Vijay’s famous Pokkiri dialogue, “Oru Thadava Mudivu Pannita,” Nasser urged the star to reconsider his decision to retire, calling him irreplaceable and immune to criticism.
Film director H Vinoth, who helmed Jana Nayagan, assured fans of a full-fledged entertainer. Addressing rumours that the film lacked buzz or was a remake, he said such claims would be proven wrong, promising a true “Thalapathy film” with no dull moments.
Music director Anirudh Ravichander paid tribute to Vijay with a 45-minute musical medley celebrating the actor’s biggest hits. Renowned directors Atlee, Nelson and Lokesh Kanagaraj also took the stage, sharing personal memories and professional experiences of working with Vijay.
The strictly apolitical event underscored Vijay’s global fan base, marking his return to Malaysia after three years.
The Jana Nayagan audio launch will be televised on Zee Tamil and streamed on ZEE5 Tamil on January 4, 2026.
